Why I'm More Excited About the Chicago Bears Than I Have Been in Years

There are moments as a sports fan when you can feel something changing, and that's exactly where I'm at with the Chicago Bears. On this episode of The Shawn Mackey Show, I kicked things off with a quick Cubs update before diving headfirst into what has me genuinely excited—the Bears are finally beginning to look like a team with a long-term plan.

Training camp is almost here, and for me, football season has officially started.

I spent this episode breaking down several of the Bears' draft selections and explaining why I think Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson may finally be building something special. At first, some of these draft picks left me scratching my head, but the more I studied them, the more everything started fitting together.

One player I'm especially excited about is Dillon Thieneman. His football instincts remind me why I fell in love with the game in the first place. I even shared a few stories from my own playing days and how instincts—not necessarily speed—helped me find success on the football field. Those kinds of players always seem to be around the ball, and I believe Thieneman has that same ability.

I also talked about Logan Jones and why building the offensive line should always be the priority. Games are won in the trenches, and as a former offensive lineman myself, I appreciate players who simply show up every snap and do the dirty work.

Then there's Ben Johnson.

The more I look at his offense, the more I think he's becoming the NFL's version of a mad scientist. The multiple tight-end formations, versatile personnel groupings, and emphasis on creating mismatches have me believing the Bears could become one of the league's most creative offenses.

I also discussed Sam Roush, Zavion Thomas, the future of the receiving corps, and how all of these pieces seem to fit into a much larger vision.

This episode is only Part One.

Next week, I'll break down the defensive draft picks and explain why this Bears roster may finally be built to compete.

And yes...

I'm bringing back one of my favorite segments...

"Sh*t That Pisses Me Off."

Trust me—you won't want to miss that.
