Bears vs. Giants Recap: Sloppy Start, Fourth-Quarter Firepower, and a Look Back at Forgotten Legends

Image
The Chicago Bears delivered a roller-coaster performance in their matchup against the New York Giants—a game defined by inconsistency, stalled drives, and defensive breakdowns, yet capped with a resilient fourth-quarter comeback. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win, and for Bears fans, that’s sometimes all you can ask for. From the opening whistle, the Bears struggled to find rhythm on either side of the ball. Offensively, Caleb Williams had flashes of brilliance mixed with hesitation, slow reads, and unnecessary scrambling despite having ample time in the pocket. While his mobility saved the Bears from disastrous sacks, it also pointed to an ongoing challenge: processing defenses quickly and trusting his receivers. The situation wasn’t helped by four drops from Olamide Zacchaeus and eight drops overall from the receiving corps. Defensively, Chicago contained the Giants’ run game early but repeatedly gave up chunk plays in the air, allowing an alarming 8.1 yards per pass attempt. Tyri...

Ugly Wins and Hard Lessons: Inside the Bears’ Wild Week of Football: Season 2 Episode 14

Image
Welcome to season two, episode fourteen of The Shawn Mackey Show . First off, you’re welcome. Last episode was recorded poolside in Cabo San Lucas, and I left my shirt on for you — nobody needed that image of me shirtless at a resort. If you follow me on social media — @ShawnPMackey on Facebook, ShawnMackey96 on YouTube, and everywhere else — you’ve seen I use short video clips to promote the show. So again, you’re welcome for keeping things tasteful. We went on vacation, so things got neglected around the house, and we took a week off. I didn’t even do an episode dedicated solely to the Bears vs. Ravens game. Quite honestly, after watching that mess, I was speechless. Caleb Williams regressed again — this kid is so up and down. But I’m not giving up on him yet. Ben Johnson just needs to mold him a little more, tighten that Play-Doh, and get him to show that brilliance every week. The Bears’ mistakes against the Ravens were endless. Ben Johnson said, “It’s hard to win a football game w...

Bears Beat Saints 26–14: Caleb Williams’ Struggles, Moody’s Rise, and NFL Officiating Outrage: Season 2 Episode 13

Image
Welcome to Season Two, Episode 13 of The Shawn Mackey Show , coming to you live—well, live as I record it, but not when you’re hearing it—from a beautiful resort here in Cabo San Lucas. For those of you watching the video version, enjoy the view. I can now officially say I’ve not only listened to The Shawn Mackey Show in Cabo, but also recorded an episode here. This week, we’re talking about the Chicago Bears vs. New Orleans Saints , where the Bears beat the Saints 26–14 on Sunday. At one point, the Bears led 20–0, and it looked like it would be a complete blowout. But by the time the final whistle blew, it was only a 26–14 win. Yes, the defense played solid, but this game should’ve had a much different outcome. Now, about Caleb Williams —I’m still not ready to jump on the bandwagon. He looked like he regressed again last week. I don’t know what’s going on with this kid. He acts like his talent is so superior that he doesn’t need to work as hard. His body language, that noncha...

Bears vs. Commanders: Caleb Williams Shows Growth, Officiating Sparks Controversy Season 2 Episode 12

Image
By Shawn Mackey | The Shawn Mackey Show The Chicago Bears pulled off another nail-biter, edging the Washington Commanders 25–24 thanks to a last-second Jake Moody field goal . Déjà vu? It’s the exact same score the Bears used to beat the Raiders earlier this season. But while the scoreboard might feel familiar, the story behind it tells a lot about progress, resilience — and questionable officiating. Caleb Williams: Early Promise, Late Poise Caleb Williams started strong, showing command in the pocket early on. Despite some shaky moments and a few too-hot short passes, the rookie kept his cool when it mattered most — leading the Bears downfield for the game-winning kick. Stat line? 17 of 29 passing for 252 yards 2 total touchdowns (one rushing) Compare that to Commanders QB Jayden Daniels — 19 of 26 for 263 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception — and it’s clear both young stars are making their cases as future franchise cornerstones. Still, the numbers tell only half t...

Cubs 2025 Season Report Card — Breaking Down the Highs, Lows, and What’s Next for Chicago Season 2 Episode 11

Image
The 2025 Chicago Cubs season is officially in the books, and it’s time to tuck them in for the winter. After a rollercoaster year filled with promise, inconsistency, and questionable decision-making, fans are left wondering: where do we go from here? From the players to management, here’s an honest look at how the Cubs performed in 2025 — and what it means for the team’s future. The season started with optimism. Spring training showed flashes of greatness, particularly from Pete Crow-Armstrong (PCA), who electrified fans before cooling off late. The Cubs briefly held the best record in baseball, leading the division deep into June before a familiar fade began. The turning point came when Kyle Tucker’s hand injury was mishandled, derailing both his season and the team’s momentum. Instead of resting him, management let him play through pain — a decision that proved costly. When the dust settled, the Cubs still managed to make the playoffs, hosting the Padres in the Wild Card Series. But...

The Shawn Mackey Show: Season 2, Episode 10 — College Football Chaos, Cubs Playoff Hopes & Bears Rising

Image
The latest episode of The Shawn Mackey Show dives deep into an action-packed week across college football, Major League Baseball, and the NFL. Shawn breaks down NCAA upsets, the Chicago Cubs’ return to postseason success, and why the Chicago Bears might finally be turning a corner. College Football: Ranking Madness and Week 6 Matchups Week 5 of the college football season delivered plenty of upsets and ranking reshuffles. Illinois shocked USC with a 34–32 win, climbing to No. 22 despite fumbling twice at the goal line. Virginia’s upset over Florida State also sent shockwaves through the rankings. Yet, Ohio State maintained its No. 1 position, edging Washington 24–6 in a game that felt much closer than the score suggests. The ever-changing landscape of the AP Top 25 and ESPN power rankings continues to confuse fans and analysts alike. While Ohio State, Oregon, and Miami hold the top three spots in both systems, other placements — like Texas jumping from No. 10 to No. 9 without pl...

Chicago Cubs, Caleb Williams, and the Week in Sports: The Shawn Mackey Show Season 2, Episode 9

Image
In this episode of The Shawn Mackey Show , Shawn dives deep into a jam-packed week in sports, starting with the Chicago Cubs’ recent struggles. After losing five straight games, the Cubs’ lead in the wild card race began to dwindle. Despite a 10–3 win against the Mets, their inconsistent bullpen and cold bats continue to raise concerns. With key players like Kyle Tucker still on the injured list and new acquisitions such as Michael Soroka struggling to find rhythm, the Cubs must get hot fast if they hope to make a strong postseason run. The offense needs consistency, and the bullpen must stabilize before October baseball begins. Switching gears to college football, Shawn voiced frustration over the AP Top 25 rankings. With Ohio State holding firm at number one, Miami rising to number two, and Texas slipping despite a solid record, the unpredictability of sports writers’ votes leaves fans scratching their heads. The shake-up following Indiana’s decisive win over Illinois—knocking ...

From the Bears’ Blunders to the Cubs’ Comeback: Chicago Sports in Focus: Episode 8

The Chicago Bears’ Struggles and Cubs’ Playoff Push: A Fan’s Honest Take The Chicago sports scene is heating up this fall, with plenty to talk about on both the gridiron and the diamond. The Chicago Cubs have clinched a playoff berth and are holding strong in the Wild Card race, while the Chicago Bears continue to struggle with coaching questions, injuries, and fan frustration. It’s the perfect storm of excitement and exasperation for fans across the Windy City. The Chicago Bears’ Accountability Problem The Bears’ early-season woes have many questioning whether Head Coach Ben Johnson and General Manager Ryan Poles are truly equipped to turn this franchise around. Johnson recently called out his team’s “non-championship caliber” practices—an odd statement coming from the man responsible for setting the tone. If the practices are lazy, the accountability falls on coaching. When players are allowed to “lollygag” and still start on Sundays, the culture breaks down. The Bears’ injury ...
