I’m One Pissed-Off Happy Camper: Season Two of The Shawn Mackey Show Kicks Off

šŸŽ™️
I’ve got to be honest—I’m one pissed-off happy camper. What does that even mean? Hell, I’m not sure myself. But that’s how I feel as we kick off season two of The Shawn Mackey Show.

Behind the scenes, it’s been a grind. I recorded several episodes, added sound effects, created intros and outros, and even mixed in some fake commercials for laughs. I wanted to “spice up” the podcast this season. But every time I thought I was ready to hit publish, something went wrong—especially with copyright.

I used free music and sound effects from Pixabay, read all the licensing terms, and thought I was good. Still, I woke up one morning to find a copyright tag on my YouTube upload. Total panic mode. I deleted everything, did hours of research, uploaded test clips—still no clear answer. Maybe it was the Chicago Bears fight song I sang. Maybe not. Who knows.

All that to say, this episode is a clean slate. I’m mad about the mess, but happy to finally be rolling again.

⚰️ Saying Goodbye to the Cubs

Before we move on, I’ve got to talk about the Chicago Cubs. I officially laid them to rest this season. Funeral music and all. Six and a half games back in the NL Central, the Brewers winning nonstop—it’s over. Jed Hoyer’s decisions have been driving me nuts all year. Maybe I’ll eat my words later if they pull it together, but for now, I’m calling it: RIP, 2025 Cubs.

🐻 Bears Preseason Thoughts

Now, onto something that actually makes me happy—the Chicago Bears. Their first preseason game gave me reasons to smile. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but there’s potential. Tyson Bagent impressed me. I don’t care what people say about his arm—if you’re a coach who knows your quarterback’s strengths, play to them.

The defense under Dennis Allen looks better too. More man coverage, less soft zone. As a former high school coach, I can’t stand zone defenses. Good quarterbacks pick that apart all day. So seeing the Bears press more is refreshing.

We’ve got some roster moves happening too. A few young defensive backs signed—Millard Bradford, McKay Garner, Caleb Hayes, and Mark Perry. Austin Booker looked solid out there too. Give that man more reps.

All in all, there’s a lot to work on, but it’s preseason. Let’s not panic yet.

šŸˆ The Best NFL Nicknames Ever

Now for the fun part: great NFL nicknames. It all started with a Facebook post about Craig “Ironhead” Heyward. That dude was a wrecking ball with a bowling ball for a head—earned that nickname by leading with his helmet on every play. May he rest in peace.

Then there’s Icky Woods. You’d think “Icky” came from some locker room stench, but nope—it came from his little brother mispronouncing “Albert.” Still one of the most iconic names in NFL history.

My “Top NFL Nicknames” list for this week:

6️⃣ Corey “Poop” Johnson – Got the nickname for, well… being very open about his bathroom habits. Enough said.

5️⃣ Gale Sayers – “The Kansas Comet.” Met the man once—class act. That nickname came from his college days at Kansas.

4️⃣ Joe Namath – “Broadway Joe.” The legend. Flashy fur coats, pantyhose under the pads, and that Super Bowl III win.

3️⃣ Nick Foles – “Big Nick Energy.” The nickname that became legend during that wild Super Bowl run.

2️⃣ Najeh Davenport – “Dump Truck.” A John Madden favorite if there ever was one. Power, size, and drive—built like a truck.

1️⃣ Walter Payton – “Sweetness.” The greatest of them all. Smooth, graceful, and pure class. My favorite player ever, and my go-to jersey.

🧠 Final Thoughts

Season two has been a wild start. Between copyright drama, the Cubs’ collapse, and the Bears’ early promise, it’s been a ride. But we’re here, fired up, and ready to talk football, life, and everything in between.

Next week, I’ll drop part two of the “Best NFL Nicknames” series—because there are way too many good ones to fit into one episode.

Until then, stay tuned, and stay real.

Peace.
